Letter from the Principal

Hello Future Golden Lion Families,

As the 2020-21 school year winds down, my hope is that everyone had a fantastic school year! My name is Matt Herzberg, and I am thrilled to be principal at Charlene McKinzey Middle School. I’ve been a part of the Mansfield ISD family since 2008 as a teacher, assistant principal, and most recently, principal at Lillard Intermediate. My wife is a counselor at Mansfield High School, and I have two children. My son is in 2nd grade at the Innovative Learning Academy @ Smith Elementary, and my daughter will start Kindergarten next year.

Welcome to McKinzey! This school is unique in that it is both a neighborhood middle school and a choice school. Think of McKinzey as two schools under the same roof. For all students that live in the attendance zone, you will automatically go to McKinzey for 7th and 8th grade and will experience the same courses and activities that any other district middle school has.

For those students across the district who applied and were accepted, McKinzey is also a STEM Academy. The STEM Academy is for students who are on or above grade level, enjoy collaboration and sharing ideas, have an interest in solving real world problems, and have an interest in STEM subjects.

As we get closer to the 2021-22 school year, I look forward to meeting all the McKinzey families and students! McKinzey was built in an incredible, growing part of Mansfield and I can already tell it will have amazing students and families. I can’t wait for this school to open and to showcase all the things our students will do.

Sincerely,
Matt Herzberg, Ed.D.
Principal, Charlene McKinzey Middle School
